Too Much On My Plate October 21, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — homecookedem @ 8:11 pm

This week has left me breathless.  I feel like I’ve been chasing after something that never stops.  I’ve actually found myself having to gulp for air a few times because I’m running around trying to get so many things done and it’s wearing me down.  I think part of the problem is that I set way too many goals and expectations for myself.  It is mostly self inflicted.  I worry constantly about what needs to be done next.

Also, with the state of the economy and my family’s financial situation, I’ve had to start thinking about ways to make some extra money.  So, I’ve already started tutoring after school this week and will continue on a regular basis.  I may also begin doing some babysitting which will take up even more of my time.  Right now, I just have too much to do and simply not enough time to do it.  How do women with full-time jobs and kids do it all??????

As much as I love my blog, I am going to have to post less often.  I really wish I could stick to once a day at least, but I do not want to compromise the quality of my posts because of rushing through it so I can move on to the next item on my to-do list.  I hope that you will all continue to follow me because I am still going to be here, just not as regularly and often as I would like to.

What about you?  Have you ever had to make a tough choice so that you could more easily juggle all of the daily demands life throws at you?

Speaking of too much on my plate…

My dinner was kind of hanging over the edges there!

I had black bean tacos with steamed broccoli and cauliflower topped with salsa.  So delicious! :)

Off to check a few more things off my list and then pass out in bed!

Goodnight my friends! :)

I’m selling some stuff on craigslist that we don’t need/use at all. It’s stuff that’s just been sitting in the house. I also listed a bunch of books on half.com. In the last week I’ve made a serious amount of $$. Try some of that – it’s making money without going anywhere.
I’ve done the whole babysitting thing too. Good money, but after a long day with kids I quite honestly can’t handle anymore.

    Dinner looks fabulous!

  3. The beans and cheese on the tortilla are making me drool…I’ve been craving that for some days now…I take it as a sign! :-)

    Hang in there.

As long as you continue to blog, I’ll continue to follow you.
I’m not sure how women with full time jobs and kids manage their days. I’ve actually told my sister, who is also a teacher and has 2 kids, that I don’t know how she does it. Sometimes it’s all I can do to manage my own life.
I hope things get better soon – hang in there!

  5. Oh, Em – you could post once a month and I’d still follow you! :-)

I think that’s a good choice…NOT that I want you to blog less, but something has to give when you get too much on your plate like that – ya know? Sometimes I think the people that appear to “do it all” really don’t have any (or very little) quality time with loved ones. That is SO important to me – and I can tell to you, too!

When I taught I tutored 10 students a week…it’s time consuming, but a GREAT way to make money. And it’s nice because you can make your own schedule! And I babysit once/week still. Yes, I feel 15, but it’s decent money!

I completely agree about working moms. Most of my friends who are moms stay at home. But realistically, most people in this world can’t do that! I guess we can only hope to do what we love during the day, and come home to do the “real work” at night.

Wow, sorry for the long-winded comment! ;-) I hope your week gets better – at least it’s allllmost Friday! Do you guys have Fall Break soon?

  6. Siiii, yours was one of my very first food blogs–and I look forward to every post!

Hope everything eases up–but don’t push yourself. You come first :)

Hi Em! Make sure to take the time you need! I’ll still love reading your posts and emailing, of course! The weekend is close!! Hang in there lady!

    P.S. Delicious dinner! :)

Broccoli with salsa on top is one of my favorite combinations. It’s also great to mix in some black beans. I hope you get some “breathing room” soon.

I’ll echo what everyone else has already said. Make time for you the way you need to. If that means slowing down on blogging, or on whatever, then do it.

  10. you have to do what is right for you, never apologize for it :)
i totally understand the hectic life right now, idk how people do it, but i find that taking it just one day at a time helps and that its okay to relax, everyone deserves to relax.
hope things slow down soon :)

I hate that feeling of being overwhelmed. Take care of you and take the breaks you need to keep sane! If blogging takes a back burner it’s ok – we understand!
